What I wear to a convention

At a convention, it matters what you wear. In order to get noticed you need to wear certain items and avoid others in order to get the best out of your convention experience. Keep in mind that this is what I personally wear. You may find that you wear other things and thats perfectly okay. Sometimes as you get older, you prefer to wear different items of clothing.

1. Don't wear baggy clothing

This one is pretty obvious. You don't want to be wearing a baggy t-shirt and sweatpants to ballet class. But don't wear that sort of thing to hip-hop either. Even if you are wearing leggings, you still don't want to wear a super bag top because it consumes your form. You also can't see all of your isolations and sharp movements. Baggy clothes also make you look frumpy and may not give you that clean, sleek, professional look that you may be going for.

2. Never wear ANY black

They not to wear any black at all. Don't even wear black socks. You always want to wearing super colorful things because most everyone else is going to be wearing black leggings or black shorts. You don't want any part of your body to blend in with the rest of the convention people. IF HOWEVER, you know for a very specific fact that you are the VERY BEST person in the convention room, you may opt to wear black because the teachers know you personally and will see you anyway. But the majority of people don't fall into that category.

3. Have sleek hair

GEL, GEL, AND MORE GEL! Your hair should be almost perfect. You NEVER want to be messing with your hair when your in class. It is unprofessional and sloppy. No teacher is going to want to call your number if you spent their entire class fixing your hair. Not that being called out matters, but you also will be taking away from your learning time, which is the most important thing. I recommend a low ponytail because it looks good for ballet as well as hip hop. You have to make sure that your hair is looking good and fits the style of every class.

4. Wear clothes that fit every single style

Although leotards are very cute, I personally don't like to wear them to convention. Often times you only have a few minutes to get ready for your next class. Trying to change your number from a beautiful leotard to a hip hop shirt may cut into your class time and steal your attention away from your teachers. Sometimes simply slipping pants over your leotard looks a bit weird and often doesn't fit the groovy style. If you want to come prepared and put your spare number on your hip hop shirt, go ahead but it still takes more time than my suggestion. I suggest that you wear a tight fitting crop top (not too cropped, just above the belly button) and tight fitting leggings. That way for hip hop, all you have to do is put on your shoes and BOOM, your done and ready to learn. The tight fitting crop top is like your sports bra. It looks nice and presentable for ballet but also looks good for hip hop and everything in between.

Here are some examples of things that I wear to conventions. Take a look!!!!
